It’s not easy living in today’s world. Just thinking about the distractions surrounding you can render a feeling of being pulled in multiple directions at the same time.
The question is: “Do you follow in the direction of the strongest pull or do you follow in the direction of what matters the most?”
The answer is: “Your life is always moving in the direction of your strongest thought.[i]” The answer isn’t always easy. It just sounds easy until you start putting it into action.
Have you ever watched the needle of a compass? If you hold it in your hand facing north, the needle doesn’t lie still. It is constantly vibrating.
Facing north, you are pulled in the direction of good and beauty, truth, family and friends, church and God. Facing south you are pulled in the direction of excitement and fun, lies that seem like the truth, friends and family, parties or whatever makes you feel good and Satan.
“Your life is always moving in the direction of your strongest thought.”
Even if you don’t believe in God, you do believe in something or someone that you have the urge to idolize. Maybe you don’t know what you believe in, and that is okay.
Where do you feel your strongest pull is coming from? Let’s take a quick thought assessment. On a scale from 1- 10 with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best, answer these three questions.
- Are you worried or are you peaceful about your life at this moment?
- Are you usually negative or feel positive about how your life is?
- Do you tend to have a view of the world based on the influences around you or do you have an eternal outlook on life?
Score your answers as follows: two or three between 1 – 5 = A; two-three between 5 – 10 = B.
A is South: you structure your life based on your perception of the world around you and how you are treated. Your belief in God is frequently shaped more about what you believe about the church rather than what you know about God.
B is North: you structure your life based on your beliefs and morals. Your perception of the world includes a belief in God; you may or may not have a strong faith, but you strive to do what is right. You plan for the future and eternal life.
Your Four Steps:
- Pick one negative thought about yourself that you often believe or believe when you are down.
- What are some truths that will help you create a positive outlook?
- Do you know who is responsible for negative, self-defeating beliefs? How do you usually turn your thoughts back to positive?
- Here is your action step. Write down the truth in your own words, read it, think about it, repeat it out loud over and over until you can say it in the mirror looking into your eyes and know you believe it.
Please leave your comments. Did it work? If not, what do you do that works for you?
