A Morning Conversation

This morning I woke up an hour later than usual feeling refreshed. I fixed my coffee and ventured out to the deck with the dogs. Sitting at the table watching Barretta smell every inch of where the squirrels tread. I listened to the constant babble of the creek and a bird’s song.

My heart quieted from my to-do list to a peaceful place as I gazed at the top of Middle mountain through treetops two-hundred feet above the creek. Most of them well over a hundred years old. I looked around catching the cloudless blue of the sky above.

“Thank you, God,” I whispered, “for creating these mountains and valley, for heavy snows throughout the winter, and the calming sound of the creek.” My morning conversation with God continued for an undetermined amount of time.

We talked about everyday things, like a squirrel teasing Barretta and the silence of the wind. What I will write about today and the tingling in my left leg.

“Father, grant me peace today so I can feel your presence.”

“Guide my steps and interactions so I display Your love and the Love of Jesus.”

“Today, I surrender my life to you and pray whatever I do is for your glory and I forget about mine.”

“Thank you for providing whatever I need. I always have enough. Most of all I need you, Father. I love you, Jesus. I keep trying to learn your teachings and place them in my life. I rely on you, Holy Spirit, to teach and guide me but then sometimes I don’t feel you as much. Why?”

“Thank you, for all my blessings, and for feeling your love, especially when I feel lonely.”

I sat without saying anything for a time before I said, “Amen.” My heart no longer had things to say. My phone dinged once, a reminder I had a message.

As I picked it up, the first thing I saw was the Bible app icon. I opened it to read the daily scripture. Now a morning habit. I started reading Ephesians 5:1-2 TPT and read it again and again.

“Holy Spirit, I just prayed this scripture!” I spoke aloud, “How?… Oh, Holy Spirit, I thank you for showing me I am on the right path.”

My whole being filled with joy and gladness that I can’t describe. I felt an excitement for the day and what I would write. My to-do list was no longer a list of tasks but ways to glorify God.

Hours have passed and I still have the joy and excitement. I feel it for you too, friend. Don’t let praying become a difficult task. I discovered a long time ago I receive more blessing when I just have a conversation as I would have with my best friend. Just talk about what you need, your day, your fear, your battle.

Just talk.

Then listen. He will reveal to you in a way you will know without a doubt it came from Him.

Yes, you will know without a doubt.

  • Do you have a similar experience with God you would like to share?
  • How did that experience make you feel?
  • Do you have a relationship with God in which you can just talk to Him like your best friend?

  1. Lyn, I enjoyed your post. I too spend the early morning in my Bible and with my journal and of course coffee. God uses this time often to speak to me and to guide and fill me with His Spirit. It seems you experience the same joy often. Thanks for putting it into words and sharing with us. —Judy
