This week I want to reflect on what we witnessed on the news as Brandt Jean, an eighteen-year-old young man demonstrated true forgiveness with an overflowing of loving like Jesus when he stated his forgiveness and asked permission to hug Miss Guyger, in a crowded courtroom. My hope is the frenzy has died down to a point we can see God working in these lives.
That was just my gesture, my decision of letting her know that I truly forgive her.
When asked, what he wanted others to take away from this…?” This amazing young man stated,
“This is what you have to do to live free…”
I am filled with hope the love Brandt demonstrated will stimulate restoration more than the street demonstrators and internet haters who were filled with anger and hate.
“I know that there’s something called peace of mind and that’s the type of stuff you need to do to have peace of mind,” he said. “That is why I wake up happy in the morning. That is why I want to live happy later on in my life.”
He didn’t want her to just hear he forgave her, he wanted her to feel forgiveness. The journey this young man has walked this past year is an amazing testimony for our Lord and Savior.
Were you shocked when young Brandt stated,
“I love you just like anyone else and I’m not going to hope you rot and die.”
I was shocked by the people who took offense to this statement.
When he spoke on the witness stand these words stand out to me.
“I personally want the best for you. I wasn’t going to say this in front of my family, I don’t even want you to go to jail. I want the best for you because I know that’s exactly what Botham would want for you. Give your life to Christ. I think giving your life to Christ is the best thing Botham would want for you.”
He honors his brother, his family and he honors Jesus. Brandt Jean stood up for what God wants to see in all of us.
Friends we never know when God is going to put us in a position to do His plan. God spoke to everyone in this nation through this young man. He taught us about REAL forgiveness and how to show His love.
Brandt Jean stood in his faith and didn’t concern himself about what others thought but about his relationship with God.
Take time to consider this week how you can stand strong in your faith and share the love Jesus teaches us.
What does having peace and waking up happy every morning mean to you?
Are you ready? Are you living free and is your heart at peace? If not, then how can I help you?
